Also for sale: Kirkland, Wash. estate with recital hall designed by acoustician Glenn White
The organ was built concurrently with a recital hall in a Kirkland, Washington estate. It was custom designed to make possible a wide range of music.
The organ has 24 stops played from two manuals and pedal, mechanical key action and mechanical stop action. More than 1200 pipes are arranged in 26 ranks. All pipes were made in the builder's shop from a lead-tin alloy and the wooden pipes from tulipwood. Wind is supplied by a 0.5 horsepower blower and one wedge shaped bellows.
The case, standing 24 feet high, is made of tulipwood and painted with a special oil-based paint. The carvings are made from Alaskan yellow cedar and guilded in 24 carat gold leaf. The instrument weighs approximately six tons.
Though the case and tonal design of this organ are rooted in historic traditions, the aim was to create a modern instrument capable of playing a wide range of musical repertoire.
